Martin Bürger
Martin Bürger’s musical journey began with a childhood premonition from his mother, which eventually evolved from early school cover bands into a dedicated professional career. After a period of exploration following high school, he committed to his craft by studying at the Jazz & Rock Schule Freiburg. This formal education provided him with a vital network of collaborators and solidified his transition from seeing music as a hobby to embracing it as his primary life focus.
His professional path is marked by significant long-term projects and geographic shifts driven by his passion for performance. A key chapter involved his move to the Swabian region in 2004 to work with the band Threekingseleven, leading to a prolific six-year residency and a 2009 album. He has since garnered substantial acclaim with groups like the Alemannic rock band Luddi – earning multiple cultural awards and television appearances—and the award-winning blues project Blue Deal. To further refine his technical skills, he also completed intensive studies at the Bass-Akademie Hamburg under Markus Setzer.
Main projects are Marcus Halver’s Soul Connexion feat. Arno Haas and various projects and bands with singer and guitarist Joe Vox.
Beyond the stage, Buerger is a versatile studio musician and an educator who views bass playing through the lens of connection rather than rigid genre labels. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the “feeling” of music and the group dynamics of improvisation over mere content delivery. Whether through session work, band coaching, or his current projects like Soul Connexion, he remains focused on the core elements of groove and interactive creativity.
